Windshield Replacement in Cold Lake

Windshields are attached to the vehicle body with urethane (windshield adhesive), so the first step in replacing a windshield is to cut away the old urethane from the vehicle. Then, both the vehicle and new windshield are cleaned and primed. New urethane is then applied to the body of the car, the windshield is mounted to the vehicle and the urethane is given time to cure.

Most windshield replacements can be completed in 3-4 hours. During this time, we carefully remove and replace your windshield, and then the adhesive used to bond your windshield to your vehicle’s body is given time to cure until it is safe for driving. Without this curing time, your windshield could detach from your vehicle in an accident. The time necessary to reach “safe drive-away time” varies depending on the type of urethane used, the temperature, the humidity, and the type of airbag system.

A & A Glass Ltd. has a large auto glass inventory, and in many cases, we have the necessary windshield in stock. If not, we can generally have the windshield delivered to us within 3-4 days. We do not immediately inventory other auto glass such as back, door and vent windows, simply due to the wide variety of vehicle makes and models and the relatively low demand for other types of glass. However, most replacement glass can be ordered and arrive within 2-4 days depending on the level of emergency. We are happy to temporarily poly the window at no charge until the replacement glass arrives.

Yes, in many cases, recalibration is required after a windshield replacement. Most newer vehicles rely on cameras and sensors mounted to the windshield as part of their Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). When the windshield is replaced, these systems often need recalibration to ensure they continue to function accurately. Insurance companies also commonly expect or require recalibration to maintain proper coverage.   If a customer chooses not to recalibrate their windshield, they must sign a waiver acknowledging this decision.
